Romania wins two golds, two silvers at 49th International Chemistry Olympiad

​Two gold medals and two silver medals make up Romania's medal count at the International Chemistry Olympiad 2017, according to the Romanian Education Ministry (MEN).

The gold medallists are Alexandra Dima of the Bucharest Intentional Informatics High school, a 2016 silver medallist; and Paul Haidu-Gerea of the Mircea cel Batran Collegiate High School of Constanta, who defended his 2016 edition gold.

The silver medals went to Anamaria Leonescu of the Sfantul Sava Collegiate High School of Bucharest, and Dorian Gabriel Muntean of the Spiru Haret Collegiate Highs School of Tecuci, Galati County.

Romania thus ended second in Europe and 7th in the world in the unofficial country ranking, among 78 participating countries.

he International Chemistry Olympiad 2017 was held in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, July 6-15, attended by 279 competitors from 78 countries.
