Minister-delegate Birchall: National European affairs management system provides constructive dialogue between Romania, EU

Romania's National European Affairs Management System is 'the main vector that provides a constructive dialogue between Romania and European institutions to secure the efficiency of Romania's participation in the EU decision-making process," Minister-delegate for European Affairs Ana Birchall told a weekly session on Wednesday of the coordination committee of the National European Affairs Management System.

She went on to say that 'evidenced as part of the dialogue were inter-institutional cooperation for Romania taking over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2019 as well as aspects of national positions on specific themes of interest," Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) said Wednesday in a press statement.

Also discussed at the meeting for approval were the mandates allowing the participation of national delegations in the ministerial meetings of the Council of the European Union, with emphasis on priorities in Romania's cooperation with European bodies. At the same time, the latest developments in the activity of the European Parliament and the European Commission were reviewed.

Birchall reiterated the importance of the National European Affairs Management System to dialogue and cooperation with European institutions on themes of interest to Romania.

Another topic of discussion at the meeting was two calls from the European Commission for proposals related to new funding opportunities for education and training, namely "Long-term mobility for apprentices" and "Sector Skills Alliances under the Erasmus+ programme." The organisations involved, in direct coordination with the National European Affairs Management System, will start off in the period immediately ahead the dissemination of information to those interested in submitting projects for these two areas, says MAE.

The Coordination Committee of the National European Affairs Management System, operating in its current form under decision HG 34/2017 concerning the establishment and operation of the National European Affairs Management System for Romania's participation in the decision-making process of European Union institutions, operates under the chairmanship of Minister-delegate for European Affairs Ana Birchall and under the guidance of Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu.

The committee convenes in weekly sessions and all the involved ministries and specialist bodies are represented at the level of state secretaries in charge with European affairs.
