Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu on Tuesday welcomed ambassador Maria Leissner, Secretary General of the Community of Democracies, with whom he discussed the exercising by Romania of the CD's Presidency, reads a release by the relevant ministry (MAE) sent to AGERPRES.

The visit of ambassador Maria Leissner is in line with the constant dialogue Romania envisages with the organisation's representatives, since it is to serve as President of the Community of Democracies in 2019-2021 and from this viewpoint, with our country's membership of the CD's Executive Bureau in 2017.

During talks, the two dignitaries reviewed the body's current projects, including topics Romania intends to promote as priorities of its Presidency, says the MAE release.

Minister Teodor Melescanu confirmed the interest for the development of the youth's commitment dimension in the activity of the international organisation, a topic Romania has also promoted within the UN Council for Human Rights.

The chief diplomat also expressed his appreciation for the very active mandate of Mrs. Leissner, in her capacity of Secretary General of the Community of Democracies, and assured her of Romania's constant support for the organisation's activity. In her turn, ambassador Maria Leissner gave assurances that the General Secretariat will grant all necessary support for the good training and unfolding of the mandate of Romania within the Community of Democracies, the MAE release adds.
